1938 Cheltenham Caravans brochure added to timeline…

For it’s time, one of the most attractive brochures of the whole range of Cheltenham brochures of the ages.  Colourful, beautifully illustrated and packed full of all the features, benefits and values that made it the special brand we all know and love to this day.

Still at its main works in Maida Vale at Naunton Lane, Cheltenham, the company had also gained additional extensive works at 205 Leckhampton Road.  This would ultimately become the company’s main works.  They would still undertake ‘specials’, although advised that spec caravans represented best value.  The brochure has a lovely foreword from Arthur Gardner.  It also details chassis and hitch construction, model range, customer testimonials and more.

The range in this brochure includes 2 berth Fawn, 3 berth Gazelle, 4 berth Reindeer, Stag, Moose and Eland.

In a list of equipment included, all caravans boasted an impressive inventory of crockery, cutlery, utensils, even flower vases for the larger caravans!  Even then, there was a guarantee of 12 months from delivery.  This was limited to the free replacement of parts which they considered defective in material, workmanship or design.

Prices started at £85 for an original Fawn (not quite the same as the later 1963-75 Fawn of course). They went up to £275 for the Eland.  This boasted hot/cold water system with 16-gallon under-floor storage tank with bath under one of the front beds. Such luxuries for the 1930s!

Such a beautiful snapshot of the company at this time, it’s hard not to see why Cheltenham Caravans became so loved.
